Transcribed Image Text:Gas forming reactions:
1. To a dry 10×75 or 13x100 mm test tube, add a small piece of solid CaCO3. Add ~3 mL of
deionized water followed by ~2 mL of 2 M HCl using a graduated cylinder. Record your
observations.
2. Repeat step 1 using scoop of solid NazSO4 that is about the size of a match head in place of
CACO3.
3. Add a small scoop of NH4C1 solid about the size of a match head to a 10×75 or 13×100 mm test
tube with 2 mL of deionized water, note the odor. Then add ~2 mL of 1 M NaOH, record your
observations and again note the odor.
Rinse your test tubes into a waste beaker using your wash bottle and dispose of the waste as per your
instructor's directions.
Neutralization Reactions:
1. Add a match head size scoop of of Mg(OH)2 into a 10×75 or 13x100 mm test tube. Using a
graduated cylinder to measure, ad ~3 mL of deionized water to the test tube then swirl the
mixture.
2. Using a graduated cylinder to measure, add - 5 mL of 1.0 M HCl to the Mg(OH)2/deionized
water test tube and swirl. Observe what happens, upon mixing.
3. Add - 2 mL of 2.0 M HCl to - 2 mL of 1.0 M NaOH in a 15x150 mm test tube. What happens
to the temp of the test tube?
Rinse your test tubes into a waste beaker using your wash bottle and dispose of the waste as per your
instructor's directions.
