When a coronary artery occludes, the flow of blood to a portion of the myocardium is blocked. If the blockage is not cleared quickly, the cardiac muscle cells die. If too
many cardiac muscle cells die, the heart can no longer function and death occur.
The pericardial sac becomes filled with fluid or blood and squeezes the heart so that it cannot contract and relax. Death occurs if the fluid is not drained quickly.
When elevated blood cholesterol levels persist long enough, they deposit on the arterial walls creating plaques. Plaques on the wall decrease the size of the blood
vessel lumen causing hypertension.
A progressive condition when the heart muscles become too weak to maintain adequate cardiac output to serve all of the tissues in the body. Depending on the side of
the heart involved, it can lead to pulmonary edema or systemic edema
