Label all relevant peaks that are above the fingerprint region (>1500 cm-1) in all the IR spectra given below with the functional group that those peaks are representative of (make sure not to forget the aldehyde C–H bonds, which many IR charts do not list).

Based on the table you completed with predicted Diagnostic IR peaks for each compound, and based on the IR spectra you had labeled, match each compound with its spectrum.

Expert Solution
Step 1

Characteristic IR frequencies of aldehydes and ketones:

Ketones and aldehydes both have carbonyl(C=O) group. Hence, the they show strong and sharp peak in the range of 1710-1720cm-1.

The difference in the structure of Ketone and aldehyde is that aldehyde(CHO) contains sp2 C-H bond whereas it is absent in ketone.

The medium and sharp peaks in the range of 2700-2800cm-1 indicate the characteristic C-H stretching frequency of aldehyde functional group which is absent in ketones.
