Expert Solution
Step 1

An infant refers to a child in the first year of life. During the developmental stage, infants go through a number of changes in their physical, cognitive, and social abilities.

Early on in their development, infants' motions are characterized by a variety of reflexive activities and spontaneous movements. Infants move mostly reflexively and automatically in the first few months of life.

Infants have very little control over their movements when they are first born. They are unable to purposefully coordinate their limbs and instead perform reflexive, involuntary movements. But as they mature and grow, infants learn to control their movements and improve their capacity to reach for, grasp, and handle items.
