Please provide a response to the following paragraph  After reading chapters 7 and 8 what I found shocking was the fact that slavery was protected by the U.S. Constitution as interpreted by the Supreme Court. I heard of this years ago but forgot that at what point in this country slavery was protected because of the government? To me, that’s crazy because the slaves did not have any were to go where they would be free people. Also, I found it interesting when it talked about how the origins of slavery and the trauma it brought have passed through generations. The trauma that resulted from slavery impacts many African American people today through individual racism and contemporary institutional. To add a lot of people agreed that slavery was wrong but they didn’t believe that they were racially equal to African Americans. It was good to see society changes a little after the end of the civil war but it was short-lived because each state had a military government until a new one could be established. Unfortunately, racism was taken to be very seriously in the south and because of this Jim Crow laws were established to “Keep blacks in their place”. This means that the white people wanted the African Americans to understand that they were not equal and needed to know where they stand when it comes to society. I liked learning about how in the years to come that Americans finally understood that segregation and racism were inherently evil. The US Supreme Court would’ve actually going to pass court cases that would help African-Americans such as Brown V Board etc.
