Hello. Please explain the ‘f()’ portion of the Java code below. If it is a function, where is it defined? What does it do in this context? Thanks, JZ // exceptions/InheritingExceptions.java // Creating your own exceptions class SimpleException extends Exception {} public class InheritingExceptions { public void f() throws SimpleException { System.out.println( "Throw SimpleException from f()"); throw new SimpleException(); } public static void main(String[] args) { InheritingExceptions sed = new InheritingExceptions(); try { sed.f(); } catch(SimpleException e) { System.out.println("Caught it!"); } } } /* Output: Throw SimpleException from f() Caught it! */
Expert Solution
Step 1

I assume you want to understand this:

public void f() throws SimpleException {
    System.out.println( "Throw SimpleException from f()");
    throw new SimpleException();

so basically f() is a simple function of vid type which throws a SimpleException, in it body part it prints "Throw SimpleException from f(), and then throws the exception.

In main function, where we are calling the f() function, we are catching the exception also.

InheritingExceptions sed = new InheritingExceptions();
try {
    sed.f();

catch(SimpleException e)
{

 System.out.println("Caught it!"); } } } /* Output: Throw SimpleException from f() Caught it! */

}
