NH2 Но но Он vidarabine
Novel antiviral agents isolated from Caribbean sponges led to the development of vidarabine, the first nucleoside drug used to treat herpes infections. (a) What monosaccharide and base are present in vidarabine? (b) Draw the structure of cytarabine, an anticancer nucleoside composed of cytosine and the same monosaccharide unit.

Due to the increasing viral infections, scientists have discovered some new drugs, having a nitrogenous base (adenine, guanine, cytosine, and thymine or uracil) attached to sugar or monosaccharides moiety via glycosidic linkage to give rise to a nucleoside drug. Example: vidarabine and cytarabine.
(a) The monosaccharide or sugar and nitrogenous base present in vidarabine are arabinose sugar instead of a ribose sugar and purine base i.e. adenine nitrogenous base.
