Those amino acid whose side chain do not like to live in an aqueous environment are called as hydrophobic amino acid. Due to its hydrophobic nature these amino acids are generally find buried within the hydrophobic core of protein or within the lipid portion of membrane.
Amino acids are ordered from most to least hydrophobic :-
Most hydrophobic - Valine, Isoleucine, Leucine, Methionine, Phenylalanine, Tryptophan, Cysteine
Less hydrophobic- Alanine, Tyrosine, Histidine, Threonine, Serine, Proline, Glycine
Partly hydrophobic- Arginine, Lysine
