Question 4 (4 points)
You perform a coffee-cup calorimetry experiment using a 6.006 g metal sample. You
heated the metal sample to 99.5°C as the initial temperature with a Bunsen burner
before adding it to the coffee-cup. The initial temperature of the water in the
calorimeter is 21.2° C, the mass of the water in the calorimeter is 87.949 g, and the
J
specific heat of water is 4.184
After
you add the heated metal sample to
gx°C
the calorimeter, the calorimeter's final temperature is 24.6°C, what was the specific
heat of the metal sample? Make sure to attach a copy of your work!

Expert Solution
Step 1

Given,

Volume of water = 10 ml

Final Volume(after addition of metal)  = 10.80 ml .

Mass of metal sample =5.27 g

As we know,

Volume of metal = Final Volume- Volume of water

     = 10.80ml -10ml

      =0.80ml

So density of metal,

Density = mass/Volume

           =5.27g/0.80ml
