John has 5 boxes of pencils and have total of 500 pencil Box number 1 and 2 have a total of 260 pencil Box number 2 and 3 have a total of 180 pencil Box number 3 and 4 have a total of 170 pencil Box number 4 and 5 have a total of 200 pencil How many pencils are in each boxes?
I'm struggling with this type of question.
Ex. John has 5 boxes of pencils and have total of 500 pencil
Box number 1 and 2 have a total of 260 pencil
Box number 2 and 3 have a total of 180 pencil
Box number 3 and 4 have a total of 170 pencil
Box number 4 and 5 have a total of 200 pencil
How many pencils are in each boxes?
Given that
John has 5 boxes of pencils and have total of 500 pencil.
( B1+B2+B3+B4+B5 ) = 500 --------(1)
Box number 1 and 2 have a total of 260 pencil = B1+B2 = 260 -----(2)
Box number 2 and 3 have a total of 180 pencil = B2+B3 = 180 ------(3)
Box number 3 and 4 have a total of 170 pencil = B3+B4 = 170 -------(4)
Box number 4 and 5 have a total of 200 pencil = B4+B5 = 200 -------(5)
Adding above all four
equations
(B1+B2) + (B2+B3 ) +( B3+B4 ) + ( B4+B5 ) = 260+180+170+200
( B1+B2+B3+B4+B5 ) + ( B1+B2+B3+B4) = 810
Put ( B1+B2+B3+B4+B5 ) = 500 in above equation
500 + ( B1+B2+B3+B4) = 810
( B1+B2+B3+B4) = 810500 = 310
( B1+B2+B3+B4) = 310 --------(6)
