The sites of transcription on the DNA has three main regions viz., promoter region (upstream of the gene sequence, helps in initiation of transcription), the gene sequence (the segment of DNA consisting of coding strand and template strand) and a termination sequence. (downstream of the gene sequence, helps in termination of transcription).
