Question
i have been having trouble with these type of equations. I don’t understand how you solve them. I copied an answer from one of my HW assignments in which they have the step by step to get your answer, but again i don’t really understand how they are able to get to that conclusion. Im not sure if they multiple, add, subtract, etc. I think the (x) is where i really get confused, for example (3x+5) most of the time it equals to a higher number and im not sure what type of way you’re supposed to solve these type of problems. If someone can help me understand in a detailed way how you get the answers for these equations it’d be so much helpful!!
if mLABD = 84, what are mL ABC and LDBC?

(4x+4).
B
use the fact that the two angles form
LABD and the angle addition postulate
to write an equation to solve for x. The angle
addition postulate states that if p is in the
interior of LXyz, then mLXYP + Lpyz = mLXYZ
the Angle postulate to write an equation
MLABC +MLDBC = MLABD
( 7x-8) + (4x + 4) = 84° ← Substitute
use
now solve the equation for x,
(7x-8) + (4x+4)=84
11x -4 = 84
11x=88
x=8
combine like terms
add 4 to both sides
divide both sides by 11
now
use the value of x to evaluate the
expressions for the measures of LABC and LDBC
Substitute 8 for x in the expression for
MLABC and simplify
m LABC= (7x-8).
= (7(8)-8) Substitute.
=48°
Simplify.
Substitute for x in the expression
mLDBC and simplify
MLD BC = (4x+4).
= (4(8)+4) Substitute
= 36° simplify
therefore, ML ABC = 48° and McDBC=36
