The popular culture of the USA was deeply impacted by the World War I and underwent dramatic changes. The War left lasting imprints on both the visual and performing arts. The literature of the period, especially in the "Roaring Twenties" bore witness to how the War had changed the perceptions of the American public for good.
There was a cultural and artistic boom in the USA which accompanied the period of economic boom in the post War period. The period is known as the period of Jazz music which saw great popularity in the USA. The Harlem Renaissance, a revival movement in the culture of the African American community was undergoing at the same time in the Harlem neighborhood of the city of New York, which revolutionized how African American culture was witnessed in the country. Several African American musicians also became popular figures in the growing Jazz music.
The literature of the period also saw how the War had impacted the mind of the writers and thinkers of the nation. Writers like Fitzgerald, Hemingway, Eliot amongst others came to helm the group pf what is titled the "Lost Generation" whose ideals were deeply hit by the War making them more cynical. The impact of this was seen in the literature produced during the period such as "The Great Gatsby".
The music in the War period was focused on the themes of patriotism and nationalism and many "war songs" were produced. During the War, advertisement and production of posters became very popular which also evoked the themes of war, nationalism and bravery. Clubs such as the Boys' Scouts produced several posters on this line.
