Most people start basing their political opinions on the beliefs and attitudes formed during childhood. During the period of childhood, we are being socialized as well, i.e. we are being exposed to norms which are followed in the society as well as other information sources like listening to leaders and Presidents talk etc. This shapes out underlying attitudes and beliefs. These beliefs may change subtly in the wake of reception of new information but can change drastically if any event or situation affects any individual very deeply.
