Expert Solution
Step 1

Many signaling pathways work within the cell to carry out the biological process. The signaling pathways respond to their unique ligands molecules. G-protein-mediated signaling is one of the signaling pathways that occur in the cell.

G-proteins and G-protein coupled receptors are involved in G-protein mediated signaling pathway. G-protein receptor is located on the surface of the cell. Some of the protein ligands that cannot diffuse across the cell membrane use G-protein mediated signaling.

Step 2

G-protein consists of alpha, beta, and gamma. The binding of the hormone to its receptor on the cell surface results in the activation of the G-protein. The alpha subunit dissociates from the beta and gamma subunits after activation and interacts with the calcium channels. This interaction leads to the activation of the calcium channel. Upon activation, the calcium channels open and allow the diffusion of the calcium ions into the cytoplasm from the endoplasmic reticulum.

Thus, option d is correct.
