The American Civil war fought from 1861 to 1865 shook the whole United States. The battle was fought between the Northern states and the Southern states. The Northern states remained loyal to the Union, and the Southern States seceded from the Union and formed their Confederates States of America. After Abraham Lincoln's election to the US's presidentship, the Southern states started seceding from the Union. Despite Lincoln's administration's efforts, the Southern states continued to rebel, eventually causing the American Civil War.
