What were the two types of disability argument used against women?
Douglas C. Baynton states that, “Disability and the Justification of Inequality in American History” were given no attention in the back century but the concept of disability is honestly culturally constructed in the Society.The disabilities shows the discrimation on the minority class or section of society along with the women on the basis of caste , gender , colour, religion. And hence Douglas also defines disability as an important role in justifying discrimination and also justifies inequality towards disabled people , along with women and the minority groups in the society.
Douglas argues that the disabled were treated unequally and were discriminated and were considered as the inferior group. Douglas in his article , used 3 major disabled example of inferior groups to show the discrimination and unequal treatment towards them and they were:-
1.)women’s suffrage
2.) African American freedom, and
3.) immigration restriction as examples to .
The concept of Disability came into limelight during the 19th century as it was used to justify slavery and various other forms of inequality treatment and discriminations towards women, African Americans and immigrants slaves .
The women were discriminated in many forms of physical, intellectual, mental,moral, emotional and psychological disabilities.
