Max Weber defined domination as a sort of power in which a person or entity may force its will on another person or entity. The former can do this by using (or threatening to use) force (i.e., the exercising of naked power) or by establishing legitimacy (i.e., attaining authority to order and making it necessary for others to obey). Would the latter case—in which people appear to obey without resistance—really be considered a case of domination?

Expert Solution
Introduction

Maximilian Karl Emil Weber (1864-1920) was one of the classical sociologists who is often also considered a one of the fathers of sociology. Not only was he a sociologist, but he was also a historian, jurist and political economist. In spite of being born in Germany and attaining his education from German institutes, Weber's perspectives and ideas differed largely from the existing sociological theories and in fact challenged many of the existing preconceived notions. Most notably, Weber was against the idea of distinction between objectivity and subjectivity as well as against any monocausal explanations as he held the view that an event can have multiple causes.
