Antibodies are proteins also called immunoglobulins that is related to the immune response. Each antibody consists of four polypeptides which comprises of two heavy chains and two light chains and are connected to form a "Y" shaped molecule which enables antibody molecules to carry out antigen binding and biological activity mediation. All the function is done by different parts of the antibody that is fragment antigen binding (Fab fragment) and fragment crystallizable region (Fc region). There are five classes of immunoglobulin molecules identified in serum: IgG, IgM, IgA, IgE and Ig D. They are recognized by the type of heavy chain they contain.
