Compare and Contrast John Harrison and James Cook
John Harrison was a self-taught English carpenter and watchmaker who invented nautical chronology as a long-term solution to the problem of calculating longitude at sea. Time-consuming tool. Harrison's solution has revolutionized navigation and greatly enhanced long-distance maritime security. The problem he solved after the Skilly naval disaster of 1707 was considered very important, with the British Parliament offering a financial reward of up to £ 20,000 (equivalent to £ 3.22 million in 2022) under the 1714 Longitude Act.
James Cook FRS was a British explorer, navigator, cartographer and captain of the British Royal Navy, best known for his three voyages across the Pacific Ocean and Australia between 1768 and 1779. He made detailed maps of Newfoundland before making three voyages to the Pacific, during which time he achieved the first recorded European connection with the east coast of Australia and the islands of Hawaii and recorded New Zealand's first voyage.
