William Lloyd Garrison was an American journalist, activist, and social reformer of the nineteenth century. He became actively involved in the abolition movement and the women's suffrage movement. He was a member of the American Colonization Society that helped the freed Africans to settle on the West coast of Africa. Later, as he became aware of the covert objectives of the organization to get rid of black people, he opposed and rejected the organization. He was one of the leading abolitionists of the nineteenth century and was a founding member of the American Anti-Slavery Society.
