The French established their colonies in North America in 1534 and their colonial rule lasted till they surrendered these colonies to Great Britain and Spain in 1763 under the Treaty of Paris (1763). The French colonial empire in North America came to be referred to as 'New France'.
The custom of Paris was a regional custumals of civil law of France, first written in 1507. The two notable revisions to the custom were made in 1580 and 1605.
