Expert Solution
Step 1

Calcium --Introduction -Denoted by Ca ,and means-- lime

Ca is an essential element for body , there is daily requirement  of Ca  for performing routine normal functioning of organs .

It is fifth in order of elements in crust , the percentage is around  3.64% .It does not occur free in the nature shows activeness of this element ,found in the form of Carbonates and Sulphates .

The body contains about 2 % of calcium and 98 % of is in bones.

In the cell and body fluid contains 10 to 15 mg. per 100 ml .

Daily calcium requirement is about 450 mg., which vary in adult ,in pregnancy and lactation there is a greater depletion of Ca from the mother and daily need should be raised.

On an average 10 mg of Ca per kilo of body weight is sufficient for daily requirement .

Growing children need about 40 to 60 mg per day.

It can be taken in daily diet as milk or other products of milk ,ingested through mouth to intestine ,the acidic atmosphere of upper gastro intestinal tract induces the absorption of Ca. ,after digestion remaining Ca is excreted through urine and feaces .
