Expert Solution
Step 1

Endocytosis: It is the process of internalization of external molecules into the cell. The molecule binds to the proteins in the cell membrane and internalized to form a pit. This is then pinched off from the plasma membrane as a vesicle.

Steps in clathrin-coated vesicle formation:

  1. The external molecules bind to the proteins on the surface of the cell.
  2. The adaptor proteins are recruited to the cell surface and polymerized. Clathrin is then recruited to the surface to coat the vesicles.
  3. The external molecule is internalized by pit formation in the plasma membrane.
  4. The dynamin which is a GTPase helps in constriction of vesicles from plasma membrane.
  5. The clathrin is then uncoated from vesicles with the help of auxilin and hsc-70.
