Expert Solution
Step 1
Endocytosis: It is the process of internalization of external molecules into the cell. The molecule binds to the proteins in the cell membrane and internalized to form a pit. This is then pinched off from the plasma membrane as a vesicle.
Steps in clathrin-coated vesicle formation:
- The external molecules bind to the proteins on the surface of the cell.
- The adaptor proteins are recruited to the cell surface and polymerized. Clathrin is then recruited to the surface to coat the vesicles.
- The external molecule is internalized by pit formation in the plasma membrane.
- The dynamin which is a GTPase helps in constriction of vesicles from plasma membrane.
- The clathrin is then uncoated from vesicles with the help of auxilin and hsc-70.
