Alden works in the city and lives in the suburbs with Nikka. Every afternoon, Alden gets on a train that arrives at the suburban station at exactly 5 P M . Nikka leaves the house before 5 and drives at a constant speed so as to arrive at the train station at exactly 5 P M to pick up Alden. The route that Nikka drives never changes. One day, this routine is interrupted, because there is a power failure at work. Alden gets to leave early, and catches a train which arrives at the suburban station at 4PM. Instead of phoning Nikka to ask for an earlier pickup, Alden decides to get a little exercise, and begins walking home along the route that Nikka drives, knowing that eventual ly Nikka will intercept Alden, and then will make a U-turn, and they will head home together in the car. This is indeed what happens, and Alden ends up arriving at home 10 minutes earl ier than on a normal day. Assuming that Pat 's walking speed is constant, that the U-turn takes no time, and that Nikka's driving speed is constant, for how many minutes did Alden walk?
I'm sorry Barterly, but the question I posted is really what was written in the book. It doesnt indicate the speed, distance or time on neither Nikka nor Alden. However, it was written in the book the clue on how to answer this problem. They said that I should use a "distance-time graph" to get the answer. However, I do not know how to use the distance-time graph to answer this question. Please, you are my last hope ma'am/sir.
Ma'am/sir, if you don't mind telling you this, this question was already been posted to this website. However, I couldn't access the answer because the barterly required me some credit card which I don't have. All I ask is on how you answer the question using the distance-time graph. That's the clue, but I don't know how to do it actually.
