Activity 3: "Digestive Team Mates" ANSWER ALL THIS! Objective: Illustrate how ingestion, absorption, assimilation, and excretion takes place in the interaction of Digestive System with the Circulatory, Respiratory and Excretory System. Direction: Based from Activity 2, identify which digestive process takes place such as Ingestion, Digestion, Absorption, Assimilation and Excretion. Choose the body system involved in each process by using the following symbols: Digestive - Respiratory - Circulatory - Excretory Digestive Process Body System Involved Functions Food is broken down into smaller pieces with the help of the saliva, teeth and tongue. Activity 2: “Digestive Buddies at Work"
Objectives:
a. Explain how digestion of food takes place in the body.
b. Describe how digestive organs work together to carry out digestion of food
and assimilation of nutrients.
Materials: slice of bread, plastic bag, water, vinegar, old stocking/thin socks, bottle,
food coloring (any color), juice, and improvised funnel from plastic bottle
Procedure:
1. Take 1 piece of bread and tear into smaller pieces.
2. Add 2 tablespoons of water to the bread then pour it into a plastic bag using a
spoon and improvised funnel.
3. Pour 2 tablespoons of juice or vinegar to the bread.
4. Close the plastic bag and squish the bread with your fingers until all the pieces are
really small.
5. Pour the bread mixture into a stocking/thin socks over a pan. Tie one end of the
stocking or socks.
6. Dip the stocking with the bread mixture in a bottle with colored water. Observe
what happens to the water and to the bread mixture inside the stockings.
7. Separate the liquid from the bread mixture by squeezing the stockings.
8. Dispose the contents of the stockings into the garbage can.
