This is one of the most popular festivals, and is celebrated on December 8th, known to all Catholics as the day of the Virgin.
Families erect altars in their houses or outside in honor of Jesus' mother Mary. They pray and sing in her honor and, more than
anything, thank her for the miracles received. Hosts give gifts like fruits and candy to family and friends they have invited. Outside
on the streets, there are fireworks.

This is one of the oldest celebrations in Nicaragua, since many of the country's customs, like traditional clothing and dances, are
indigenous and predate the arrival of the Spanish. This festival is celebrated in January to honor Saint Sebastian. First there is a
