A 20 m tall pipe, closed at the bottom, but open at the top to the atmosphere (which is at a pressure of 1.013 x 105 Pa), is filled to the brim with oil, resulting in the pressure at 105 the bottom of the pipe being 2.0 x Pa. The oil is then poured out and the pipe is then filled to the brim with pure water. i) What is the density of the oil? cc Group of answer choices a) 3.5x102 kg/m3 b) 4.0×10² kg/m³ c) 4.5×10² kg/m3 d) 5.0×102 kg/m3 e) 5.5x102 kg/m3 ii) What is the pressure at the bottom when the pipe is filled to the brim with the water? Fluid Pressure
The term fluid pressure is coined as, the measurement of the force per unit area of a given surface of a closed container. It is a branch of physics that helps to study the properties of fluid under various conditions of force.
Gauge Pressure
Pressure is the physical force acting per unit area on a body; the applied force is perpendicular to the surface of the object per unit area. The air around us at sea level exerts a pressure (atmospheric pressure) of about 14.7 psi but this doesn’t seem to bother anyone as the bodily fluids are constantly pushing outwards with the same force but if one swims down into the ocean a few feet below the surface one can notice the difference, there is increased pressure on the eardrum, this is due to an increase in hydrostatic pressure.
