A . Based on the electrical material properties, what will you choose to manufacture the rotor windings coils in the generator (Titanium, Copper, or PVC)? Give reasons for your choice. B. To insulate the outer cover of the generator, what will you use (Aluminium, Steel or PE)? Give reasons for your choice. C. Task I:
In order to generate electricity on a grand scale and provide it to all homes and businesses on a grid, the
governments started developing power stations. Steam power plants work by removing thermal energy from
a fuel source to transform water into steam. The steam that is created is used to turn a turbine. There are a
variety of fuel sources that rely on steam to turn turbines to produce electricity.
As a material engineer, your role is to select the best materials for the various parts ( Boiler, Turbine, and
generator ) in the steam power station as in Figure 1. Your manager assigned you a project to do the following
tasks
C. If the blades of the turbine must have the highest hardness level, which material will you choose Brass, Mild Steel, and Bronze? Explain your answer.
