A rectangular plate with holes under plane stress, subjected to pressure of 2000 N
in X direction and welded as shown in Figure Q1. Thickness of plate is 1 mm, E=2.7
x 10' N/mm? , poisons ratio v=0.29
Perform the static analysis using ANSYS APDL software (With Screen Capture
Step by Step), and find the following: (Please refer to Table Q1 for the
dimensions).
A) Use 8 node 183 element and describe this element type.
B) The deformation of the plate (with and without hole).
C) Maximum stress of the plate (with and without hole).
D) What is the effect of Mesh refining on the results? Compare and discuss
those results for regular meshing and refine meshing (level 3).
E) Determine the Stress Concentration Factor of this plate.
F) Conclude your understanding of Stress Concentration Factor, and explain
the difference between the stress distribution among the plate with and
without holes?
G) What is the difference between the stress concentration factor and the
factor of safety?
For ANSYS APDL stress analysis file
Analysis assumption:
- Use triangle elements and plane stress with thickness
