Step 1: Acidic hydration of alkenes

Acidic hydration of alkenes lead to the formation of alcohols.

The addition of water to the alkenes take place according to Markovnikov rule.

Markovnikov rule: It states that the negative part of reagent will attach to that carbon of double bond which contain minimum number of H-atoms attached to it.

The reaction also takes place through Carbocation intermediate, so the stability of Carbocation is also taken into account.

Stability of Carbocations: 

Allylic = Benzylic > 3°>2°>1°
