Expert Solution
Step 1

Chemical shift : The frequency of a target nuclei expressed relative to a standard compound in a magnetic field is called chemical shift.

The basic standard used in the nmr is trimethylsilane(TMS).

The units of the chemical shift is parts per million(ppm).

Electron withdrawing groups adjacent to the target nmr active nuclei decreases the electron density around the target nmr active nuclei, causes deshielding the nucleus and it results a larger chemical shift.

Electron donating groups adjacent to the target nmr active nuclei increases the electron density around the target nuclei, causes shielding the nucleus and it results a smaller chemical shift.

The strong electronegative groups can also enhance deshielding and results a larger chemical shift.
