Please answer both
1) What is responsible for returning the cell to its normal resting membrane potential following the absolute refractory period?
a) K+ leak channels
b) the Na+/K+ pump
c) activation of voltage-gated Na+ channels
d) a ligand binding to a ligand-gated Na+ channel
2) What property of an action potential allows it to propagate?
a) the rapid period of depolarization
b) the rapid period of repolarization
c) the brief period of hyperpolarization
d) the fact that the peak is 85 mV above threshold
Neurons are the basic unit of the nervous system that carry electrical stimuli throughout the body. The body of the neuron consists of the cell body, dendrites and tail. The cell body consists of nucleus and nissl granules embedded in the cytoplasm. The dendrites are the extending branches that receive the signals for propagating the action potential forward. Axon is a long slender like structure which may be myelinated or unmyelinated with gaps present in between called as nodes of ranvier. At the end of the axon are present terminal nodes which contain inactive neurotransmitter vesicles.
