Neurons are the basic unit of the nervous system that carry electrical stimuli throughout the body. The body of the neuron consists of the cell body, dendrites and tail. The cell body consists of nucleus and nissl granules embedded in the cytoplasm. The dendrites are the extending branches that receive the signals for propagating the action potential forward. Axon is a long slender like structure which may be myelinated or unmyelinated with gaps present in between  called as nodes of ranvier. At the end of the axon are present terminal nodes which contain inactive neurotransmitter vesicles
