ABA 632: Lecture Participation Assignment – WEEK 1
BAKER, MICHELLE 1
ABA 632: Weekly Blackboard Collaborate Ultra Assignment: Week 4
1.
What is assent and assent withdrawal?
Assent and assent withdrawal are two behaviors that a learner exhibits, which indicates to
the behavior analyst, if a client is going to be contingent to the programs being implemented. For example, some behavior analysts use contingency contracts with their learners. The contract is a binding document that maps out how the client is expected to behave and how the behavior analyst should behave accordingly, in order to reinforce or provide consequences. With a contingency contract, the behavior analysts observe the client and watched for cues that indicate the client is interested or invested, which would be labeled assent, or if the child is aloof, uninterested or trying to escaping tasks, which is
called assent withdrawal. A behavior analyst should always honor assent withdrawal because it indicates the client is no longer contingent and rather, non-compliant, and accurate data will not likely be captured.

Give an example of an unethical situation I have experienced in my career.
I just recently acquired new clients, due to a supervisor leaving the company. The mother of two sibling clients asked if I would be coming more often than the last supervisor. The mother then indicated the last supervisor was good when she was there, but that she never
saw her. I was, then, told that another supervisor had reached out to this mom and asked if she was interested in signing up for bowling again; our agency’s Monday social event. The supervisor that left the company use to run it. He explained to mom that the price had
gone up and when he told her the price she said, no, it actually went down. After hearing rumors from my Lead, which I also found unethical, I realized that this supervisor had been stealing from clients. Even worse was that no one called her out or checked up on

her when she was supposedly working 80 hours a week. All supervisors at our agency are
required to have overlaps every observation period. Why was no lead checking on her? It seems to me that my agency cared more about retaining clients than providing training or consequences.

Use the information in the scenario provided to prepare a managerial report for Office Equipment, Inc. (OEI).
Scenario
Office Equipment, Inc. (OEI) leases automatic mailing machines to business customers in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The company built its success on a reputation of providing timely maintenance and repair service. Each OEI service contract states that a service technician will arrive at a customer’s business site within an average of 3 hours from the time that the customer notifies OEI of an equipment problem.
Currently, OEI has 10 customers with service contracts. One service technician is responsible for handling all service calls. A statistical analysis of historical service records indicates that a customer requests a service call at an average rate of one call per 50 hours of operation. If the service technician is available when a customer calls for service, it takes the technician an average of 1 hour of travel time to reach the customer’s office and an average of 1.5…

DATAFile: Overbooking
Allegiant Airlines is considering an overbooking policy for one of its flights. The airplane has 50 seats, but Allegiant is considering accepting more reservations than seats because sometimes passengers do not show up for their flights, resulting in empty seats. The
PassengerAppearance worksheet in the file Overbooking contains data on 1,000 passengers showing whether or not they showed up for their respective flights.
In addition, Allegiant has conducted a field experiment to gauge the demand for reservations for the current flight. During this experiment, they did not limit the number of reservations for the flight to observe the uncensored demand. The following table summarizes the

How does visual art affect the perception and evaluation of consumer products?
Subiects were asked to evaluate an advertisement for bathroom fittings that contained an art image, a nonart image, or no image. The art image was Vermeer's painting Girl with a Pearl Earring, and the nonart image was a photograph of the actress Scarlett Johansson in the same pose wearing the same garments as the girl in the painting and was taken from the motion picture Girl with a Pearl Earring. Thus the art and nonart images were a match on content. College students were divided at random into three groups of 39 each, with each group assigned to one of the three types of advertisements. Students evaluated the product in the advertisement on a scale of 1 to 7, with 1 being the most unfavorable rating and 7 being the most fa vorable. The paper reported that a one-way ANOVA on the product evaluation index had F = 6.29 with P < 0.05.13

Scenario: Researchers were interested in how social situations can influence stress-induced eating. They grouped participants according to self-reported stress-induced eating habits: consistently eating more (hyperphagics) or eating less (hypophagics) when stressed. Each participant was then exposed to one of three social situations: (1) a social inclusion condition, where subjects were told that a confederate partner had approved of a video they had made answering some questions and was looking forward to meeting them, (2) a neutral condition, where they were told their partners could not meet them because their partners had to cancel their participation, or (3) a social exclusion condition, where they were told that their partner had decided not to meet them after viewing their video. Subjects were then given an ice cream taste test and the amount of ice cream consumed was measured. Question: Which of the following best reflects this scenario?
