Report
The Purpose Statement I used Walden University’s (2016b) checklist to evaluate Swan et al.’s (2015) purpose statement. They clearly stated the purpose and an original problem that needed to be researched. Before designing a study, the purpose and ideal outcomes must be defined (Babbie, 2017). The study addressed the need for more information about the effects of using blended learning with gifted and talented students (Swan et al., 2015).   Additionally, the research method, participants, and setting are provided. That being so, the article had a clearly stated purpose which provided clarity, focus, and guidance for readers. Alignment of Theory, Problem, and Purpose             Alignment of theory, problem, and purpose ensures that the chosen theoretical framework informs the study’s investigation of a problem and guides its objectives. After choosing the problem, purpose and the outcomes wanted, the next step is conceptualization where a decision is made to determine which theoretical framework aligns (Babbie, 2017). These three components should work together in harmony. The problem statement may be in the literature review to outline any existing gaps in the literature (Burkholder et al., 2020) and is rooted in the theory. The theory informs the understanding of the problem. Theory is important for alignment among the study components (Burkholder et al., 2020). Lastly, the purpose statement explains how the research will address the problem within the context of the theory.  Through the effective use of the three elements, the research study would be grounded, focused, and theoretically based. My Position on Research and Social Change            The relationship between research and social change is interconnected. Applied research, which allows for the understanding of a problem, and action research, which is used to solve immediate problems (Walden University, 2016a) encourage social change. Research sheds light on important issues, generates knowledge, provides evidence-based information, and contributes to our society (Walden University, 2009). Social change often drives research by highlighting important issues that guide researchers in the right direction. In conclusion, research and social change are linked, with research serving as an enabler of positive change in our society. References Babbie, E. R.
