Report
Since September 11, 2001, what have local, state, and federal agencies done to increase terrorism prevention and response efforts? In response to 9/11, local law enforcement agencies and state agencies undertook several steps to help prevent these attacks from happening; increased the number if personnel engaged in emergency response planning, updating response plans for chemical, biological, or radiological attacks, mutual aid agreements, and reallocating internal resources or increasing departmental spending to focus on terrorism preparedness. Since 9/11, the FBI has undertaken the most significant transformation in its history. The bureau has restructured its operations to better detect, penetrate and dismantle terrorist enterprises as part of its larger cultural shift to a threat-based, intelligence-driven, national security organization. (U.S. Department of Justice) Is the community policing problem-solving model well suited to the prevention of terrorism? Why or why not? Explain your response. The community policing problem-solving model is well suited for prevention of terrorism because it allows the community and officers to have a direct line of communication open so that everyone can collaborate on things to help prevent certain crimes. It also allows law enforcement officers to identify challenges, issues and concerns that emerge at the neighborhood level by gathering real-time information. If officers are working a beat in a neighborhood but do not have a relationship with the people inside that community then how would they expect to trust them or help them if they have information needed to stop an attack from happening? The only thing that must help combat terrorism is if we stand strong together as one, not divided. Which level of government should be most responsible for detecting and deterring terrorism? Federal, State or Local? Federal level of government should be held accountable for detecting and deterring terrorism because they have resources our state nor local level government agencies must utilize. In my opinion, the federal government should have one task force that just strictly watching for daily threat of terrorism or chatter
that could seem real and dispatch certain officials to follow up on those threats in real- time and if they need help from the other levels of government than they should reach out but having everyone working on one task is going to cause other just as important task to get neglected.
