SOC 112 Module Eight Worksheet Your Sociological Lens Questions Your Answers 1. Describe how you can use your newly developed sociological perspective in your everyday life. Now that I have learned how to see the world through a sociological perspective, I will definitely be looking at life differently. C. Wright Mills said “an individual must be able to break away from their familiar routines to look at their daily lives from a new point of view.” (sociologygroup.com) I have learned that there really is no middle class anymore and instead the ultra rich and the poor. I also am very aware of the extreme divide in this country between different races and how hateful people can be to each other. I will in my everyday life try to love others for who they are and do the best job that I can to raise my children to be accepting of all others. 2. What aspects of sociology can be helpful to you in your personal life? My study of sociology in this class has broadened my horizon to seeing the different behaviors in others based on their social status. I have learned to look at the world and see why and how certain social groups are the way that they are. It has helped me to understand that I may not always understand a person's behaviors at first, but that I can learn. Sociology has also helped me to understand hate crimes and criminal minds and has changed my outlook on crime by trying to understand the underlying social structure of that person or group. 3. What aspects of sociology can be helpful to you in your professional life? Sociology has taught me how to think differently about people and their situations and understand them, which is basically critical thinking skills. It has also taught me how to research information better and create hypothesis and conclusions. All of these skills are important in almost every aspect of any career. I think that in my profession as a bus driver, sociology will help me to better understand my co-workers, student behavior, as well as the social status that unfortunately separates bus drivers from teachers and administration, etc. ' Whether organizations and their employees flounder or flourish largely depends on the quality of the social relationships therein.” (positivepsychology.com) 4. How can a deeper understanding of human interaction be helpful in the real world? Communication is the key to any positive relationship. By being able to analyze others and learn more about them and be accepting and understanding of their differences can cause a positive relationship. Having positive interactions with others is proven to increase mental and physical well-being. “People who feel more connected to others have lower levels of anxiety and depression.” (“The Happiness Track,” 2016) It also increases cognitive abilities. Overall, human interaction is one of the most important things that we need as humans to survive. It is essential to have human contact and interaction.
