WEEK 7 DISCUSSION RSCH 7868 Approaches for a Qualitative Digital Age Influence Study Ethnography. Case study. Grounded theory. Phenomenology. Generic qualitative inquiry. In researching the influence of the digital age on individuals, it is essential to consider the limitations of traditional qualitative methodologies. Quantitative measurements may overlook contextual factors, so incorporating qualitative methods is recommended (Coulby et al., 2023). These approaches may include: 1. Participant observation: immersing oneself in the digital environments where individuals interact to gain first-hand insights into their behaviors, interactions, and experiences. For example, a researcher may join online forums or social media groups to observe and analyze the dynamics of digital interactions. Ethnography: conducting in-depth studies of specific digital communities or subcultures to understand their social norms, practices, and values. It can also allow for exploring shared experiences and common challenges participants face. The sampling strategy of ethnography used in this study involves purposeful sampling, where participants will be selected based on their relevance and expertise in the influence of the digital age. In addition to participant observation and ethnography, interviews with key informants with deep knowledge and experience in the digital age will be conducted. Grounded theory: collecting and analyzing data to develop theoretical frameworks based on emergent patterns and themes within the digital context. This approach will ensure a comprehensive understanding of the digital age's influence on individuals' self-identity, social relations, and the overall structure of the digital environment (Maryani et al., 2021). Additionally, netnography can be employed to examine digital practices within the context of innovation. A detailed influence, this qualitative research study will use a mix of grounded theory, participant observation, ethnography, and interviews with key informants. This may involve iterative data collection and analysis, allowing for the development of new theories and insights into the influence of the digital age on individuals' thoughts, behaviors, and relationships. A rationale for the sampling strategy To do an ethnography on the effects of the digital age, you need to find people who are actively involved in digital activities, like people who use social media a lot, make content online, or work on digital innovation and technology development. These approaches will provide a
comprehensive understanding of the digital age's influence on individuals by capturing their behaviors, interactions, and experiences in various online environments. This study uses various research methods to understand how the digital age has changed people and how they behave, interact, and have experiences in different online settings. For this, you should use both qualitative and quantitative methods. Qualitative methods include participant observation, ethnography, and interviews. Quantitative methods include surveys or the analysis of digital metrics data (Pribadi & Nasution, 2021). A qualitative research study on the Digital Age Influence Theory may consider using a methodological approach that combines digital ethnography and grounded theory. To use this combined method, you would need to do in-depth studies of specific digital communities or subcultures using participant observation and ethnography, and gather and analyze data from online sources like digital archives, social media sites, and forums. Identify and justify the sample size for the sampling strategy. For a qualitative research study on The Digital Age Influence Theory, the sample size would depend on several things, such as the size of the study, the variety of digital communities or subcultures being studied, and the number of people who could take part in the study who were actively involved in digital activities. A smaller sample size may be appropriate for studying a relatively niche digital community or subculture with limited participation. In this case, the focus would be on obtaining rich and detailed data from a limited number of participants who can provide deep insights into their experiences and behaviors in the digital age. (Jenkins et al., 2022)   The data collection procedures for a qualitative research study on the Digital Age Influence Theory The Digital Age Influence Theory will be studied through a qualitative research study using digital ethnography and grounded theory to gather data. Immersion in digital communities or subcultures would be one way to get qualitative data through participant observation. This lets researchers watch and write down how people act, interact, and have experiences in various online settings. They can also do in-depth interviews with chosen participants to learn more about their experiences, motivations, and views on how the digital age has affected their communities or subcultures, as well as gather digital data from online sources like social media platforms, forums, and digital archives to add to their research. - It should be ensured that all participants in the sample have diverse digital practices and experiences to capture a comprehensive understanding of the Digital Age Influence Theory. - Selecting participants who are actively engaged in digital communities or subcultures, considering factors such as their level of participation, diversity of backgrounds and experiences, and their willingness to contribute to the research. The analysis of data analysis in a qualitative research study on the Digital Age Influence Theory would involve a thematic analysis approach. Ten open-ended questions to be used in a qualitative interview for the Digital Age Influence Theory 1. Can you describe your experiences with digital technologies and their influence on your life? 2. How do you perceive the impact of digital media on your social relationships and interactions? 3. In what specific ways have digital technologies changed how you access and consume information? 4. In what ways do you think the digital age has shaped your identity and sense of self?
5. How has the availability of digital platforms affected your participation in online communities or subcultures? 6. What are some examples of the positive impacts of the digital age on your daily life and activities? 7. Can you discuss any negative consequences or challenges you have encountered due to the digital age? 8. How do you think the digital age has influenced the way people communicate and interact with each other? 9. What are your perceptions of the digital divide, and how does it affect individuals' access to digital technologies and opportunities? 10. Can you share insights or observations on how the digital age has influenced societal norms, values, and cultural practices? REFERENCES   Coulby, G., Clear, A. K., Jones, O., & Godfrey, A.
