Explain why social workers should understand the role policy plays in determining the environment in which practitioner and client interact. Social Workers have an important job when it comes to promoting change withing their environment and with their clients. It’s very crucial that we as social work professionals understand the place policy plays in deciding the community in which social workers and their clients interact for several reasons. To promote positivity within their environment social workers should understand how policies change their communities and how that affects their patients. For example, having knowledge of policies working in the homeless population, it is important to know the outlook on how individuals find themselves in this predicament. Knowing of the gaps and barriers to existing policies makes room for social workers to engage in advocacy to support positive change to policy. Describe the dichotomy between micro and macro practice. Micro and Macro practice serve as important concepts in social work. It is very important to know the significance in how each concept plays a part in social work practice. When it comes to micro practice in social work it usually centers it attention on enhancing the personal experience of a client in a one-on-one setting via office or clinic based. Macro social work focuses on improving the experience for a group as a whole or segment of society, often by advocating on a diplomatic level.
