Report
Nicole Liggiero SOC 318 Journal 2-2 January 17, 2024 In addition to adopting sustainable living habits, residents recognize the value of promoting public awareness and participating in talks and discussions about sustainability
legislation that benefit everyone and preserve Earth's ecosystems. One important practice for becoming a sustainable citizen is learning how to research different properties of what it means to be sustainable. Learning from the past and present how we lived is crucial in learning why we need to live sustainably. We have used too much of Earth's resources and we need to slow down. When it comes to environmental sustainability and social inclusion, America is ranked poorly. There are significant differences between the wealthiest and poorest members of society, and social inequality is widespread. For instance, seventy percent of the wealth in the United States is owned by the richest 10 percent of individuals. Currently, almost two million Americans lack access to basic indoor plumbing and running water, and many more are sanitized (Willsher, 2023). Given that these communities are primarily made up of people of color, Indigenous communities, and marginalized people living in low-income and rural locations, it is easy to view this as environmental racism. Because strong corporate lobbies favoring fossil fuels and heavy industry take precedence over environmentally friendly development, environmental sustainability is poor (Willsher, 2023). Humans take action to satisfy their desires and goals. Price, accessibility, efficacy, and other factors like trends or well-being are taken into consideration while making judgments ( Why Sustainable Lifestyles Matter , n.d.). Sustainability isn't what makes anything unique. Even those who wish to lead more environmentally friendly lives frequently lack access to information and reasonably priced, high-quality goods and services. This emphasizes that in addition to individuals, governments, and corporations—who are also customers—must encourage positive behavior change, disseminate more knowledge, and create new economic models that make sustainable living the standard ( Why Sustainable Lifestyles Matter , n.d.).
