HSF1210 UNDERSTANDING DIVERSITY 1 Assignment #3B Social Justice Initiative Presentation (Group/Individual; 20%) Due in Week #13 or #14 and presented in class Purpose of Assignment #3A and #3B - To use research and mass media/popular culture strategies (e.g. Instagram, Facebook, an infographic, etc.) to promote social justice and equity for a topic or population that has been marginalized. You can choose to work individually or again in your Assignment #3A group of up to 4 people. Please sign up (enroll) as an individual or a group in eConestoga: Course Tools: Groups: Assignment #3A and #3B. Assignment #3A: You will create a written proposal (background information) to later plan for Assignment #3B (a social justice initiative/ campaign). Assignment #3B: You will use creativity to present a strategy (a plan) for a social justice initative/campaign. The strategy will use media/popular culture to promote positive social change. Assignment #3B (20% of your final grade) Put Assignment #3A’s plan into creative action! In Assignment #3B, take ONE of the previously researched organizations/resources. Build on it to improve it and/or reach more people . Your presentation should be 10-15 minutes and there will be professional questions asked after the presentation. Use ideas from one of your organizations/resources from Assignment #3A. Create a media/ popular culture strategy (plan). The strategy needs to be relevant, meaningful, and capture the attention of your target audience. Use an anti-oppressive and/or strengths-based approach. Your strategy needs to educate others and promote social justice on this topic. (Note: this strategy is not targeted at the people experiencing social injustice. It is targeted at those who have power. You are acting as an ally to make positive change.) Choose one key message (2-3 sentences maximum) to share with your target audience. Demonstrate respect for diversity. Choose one specific medium (e.g. podcast, Instagram story, Facebook group/page, video, infographic, webpage, etc.). You do not need to create a full video or a complete infographic. However, you do need to share ideas of what you will do to help people learn and to promote social justice. Please include the components from Assignment #3A (WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHY, and HOW). Assignment #3B is a creative description of your plan. An optional PPT presentation template is provided. o Follow APA@Conestoga guidelines. Any videos and images used must adhere to Copyright at Conestoga . Only use creative commons images and videos.

You must present in class to receive your mark. You are expected to use your group’s own ideas and work for this assignment. Content used from other sources needs to be clearly cited and referenced. Artificial Intelligence (e.g. ChatGPT) is not allowed in creating this assignment. If the prof has concerns about original work or content generated by Artificial Intelligence, they will meet with the student(s) to ensure that the student can demonstrate the skills and knowledge assessed in this assignment.
