In this module I have exploring the instruments, Culturagram and the Sociogram. I have chosen to stay with the family(mine) that I discussed and analyzed in Module 2 ecogram and genogram. I think these instruments are both insightful and helpful in being able to understand and explore the relationships in the family and how the dynamics as well as how the relationships are in relation to closeness or differences as well as giving us a clearer more unique perspective and ability to peel back the layers of the onion so to speak to see how the family unit and each within the family as well as their connections to those in areas that are important and influencing such as church, mental health, and show strong suits as well as weaknesses that can help us to be able to guide and be most helpful and effective to the families by being able to understand the uniqueness of each individual as well as the family as a whole. Culturagram gives insight as to how our family dynamic is based on our parental influences such as how my mom was raised had a great influence and importance on me and how I raised my children and how my husband was raised which was vastly different than me as he grew up with 5 brothers and sisters and both parents. I was raised by a single mother with a sister who share same mom but different fathers. My husband’s influence on not only my children as their stepfather but myself is with great compassion and understanding but he is also very family orientated with a very set way of thinking how the family should be. We have different parenting skills and have learned differently because we have been raised differently as well as our socioeconomic status is different as well parenting style and bonds built and how to deal with things such as emotions. I feel that for me ecomaps and genograms were the most useful as they help to identify weaknesses, strengths as well as recognizing and identifying the unique relationships and individual connections within the family and the groups that are important and influential to the family. I think these two instruments are much easier to understand and see the picture in a clearer more defined way. I believe these four instruments can be very helpful as well as useful in being able to develop a care plan that is based on the specific individual and family needs as well as situations so that the strengths can be made stronger within the family unit or individual and what may be lacking of need more help to develop a stronger and more solid foundation such as additional mental health services for my son who has ADHD and Bipolar by providing these specific and induvial based services for my sons mental health and learning disabilities it can strengthen his education journey and his self esteem while it can also help and strengthen the family as we all work together to help him and maintain our close family unit even when significant stress or situations occur. Having the tools such as ecomaps can help us as HS workers develop care plans and offer services and resources available within and in the community to best assist and support the family best based on the particular needs of the family as a whole as well as individuals within the family unit.
