1. Provide a brief overview of the summary of the article (i.e., 5-6 sentences). The article Evaluating the Cool Versus Not Cool Procedure via Telehealth aimed to determine whether the procedure used to enhance social skills for individuals on the autism spectrum would still be effective when the sessions were not held in person but were instead held remotely. To determine the effectiveness of the implementation of the procedure three participants diagnosed with ASD were selected to participate in the study in which all session were administered remotely. The results of the study showed that all participants were able to change the conversation once someone was bored during the session and two of three participants were able to use that skill across different adults outside of the session. Multiple baseline across participants was used to track progress and showed that all participants reached mastery criterion in four to eight sessions. Thus, the results of the study supported that telehealth intervention of the Cool Versus Not Cool procedure was a good adequate alternative to in-person interventions for the participants of this study. 2. • Identify the research question(s) The research questions are clearly defined as all three supervisors and parents involved in the study were asked to fill out a questionnaire upon completion of the study. The research questions are: - Is the skill (changing the conversation when someone is bored) being taught socially significant? - Is the telehealth intervention acceptable? - Is the telehealth implementation of social skills intervention an acceptable replacement for in-person social skills intervention?
3. • Are the research questions clearly defined? Explain your rationale using citations from the course content (i.e., Your textbook). If the research questions are not clearly stated, please provide a revision. 4. • Does the literature review support the research questions? Explain your rationale using citations from the course content (i.e., Your textbook). - The literature review supports the research questions. The literature review has three main components (1) discussing what is known and unknown about a topic. In this case what was known was that the Cool versus Not Cool procedure was successful during in-person implementation. What was not known was whether the procedure was effective via telehealth. Next, (2) building a foundation and rationale for a study, in this case the rationale for the study was that the COVID-19 pandemic placed emphasis on a need for social skills interventions via telehealth. Finally, (3) improving plans for future studies by identifying successful procedures, measures, and designs. This study identifies successful measures for social validity that demonstrated that the skill was crucial to implement, the intervention was adequate and effective, and that telehealth was a good alternative for in-person interventions. The researchers used a multiple baseline across participants design that displayed that all participants maintained the skill they learned during intervention.
