Assessing Program Effectiveness 2 Assessing Program Effectiveness Being that I am in the bible belt, my biggest source of funding would come from local churches. We have several that already help fund various organizations that work towards alleviating stressors that low income and poverty level families face. And, since a lot of us needs are volunteer based; we shouldn’t need too much funding in order to keep the program. running. For example, Lynchburg’s Daily Bread, a local non-profit organization that helps. provide meals to those in need, had $529,141 in total functional expenses. (Mike Tigas, 2013) They then had $251,818 in salaries they paid out. (Mike Tigas, 2013) I want most needs met by volunteers. There might be a few positions that would need to be paid, for instance if we could. not find a suitable volunteer for the Career 101 class, we would need to outsource the position. and pay someone to come in and teach once a week. Say it’s a one-hour class, their rate is $20. an hour, and the class is once a week…that breaks it down to an expense roughly totaling $1,040. And that’s assuming we have year-round classes, rather than just having someone come in when. needed. Based on these thoughts, I feel this organization could easily run with just 200,000 a year. And I feel that’s being generous. We could even avoid renting out spaces by utilizing local. churches, thus decreasing our annual fees considerably. The best way to keep track of the various programs is to set up a goal tracker app. There are several that you can use to make sure you are staying focused and remain productive. throughout the day. Since I always have my phone, I am constantly able to check up on the progress of the program. Each section of the organization will have its own focused goal. Is childcare being utilized enough, or can we move childcare volunteers to another sector? Just check the app to see how many children we watched that week or month. Is our rideshare.
Assessing Program Effectiveness 3 functioning properly? Check to see the driving routes that were used on the vehicles gps systems. Make sure the available drivers are taking the most efficient way to get to where they’re trying to go. Data is data, it tells me exactly what I need to know. If numbers are down, then we need to reevaluate one of our services and make sure that it is needed in our area. If it is, then we need to figure out a better way to either market it, or a better way to help people understand the purpose of it. If the numbers are up for all our services, then we can just let the numbers do. the talking. People are utilizing the services we offer, and they are helping. If our data continues to show that we aren’t reaching our goals, then we need to pinpoint. which service is struggling. For example, if it’s the childcare service we would take an in-depth look at it. How are the volunteers interacting with the parents and the children? Is that something. that needs to change. Or it might be we don’t have enough toys for various ages. If that’s the case, we can reach out to the community and ask for donations. Or it could just be that there isn’t. a need for this service. In which case we limit it to being a as needed service. We won’t just offer it 24/7. If you end up needing childcare call ahead and we will go down our list of volunteers and get someone here for you. References
