RSMT 2500 Assignment # 2: Final Research Proposal Qualitative Research Methods RSMT 2500 Total Score: 25% This Assignment #2: Final Research Proposal is the continuation of Assignment #1: Literature Review and Research Questions. By completing both assignments, you will be producing a qualitative research project proposal that includes all relevant qualitative research components (Course Learning Outcome 8). This assignment will be submitted electronically via "Assignments" on Blackboard and automatically screened for academic integrity using SafeAssign. It is worth 25% of your final grade. Please read the instructions and the Rubric thoroughly. The FINAL PROPOSAL must address each section of the Proposal Outline listed below. Your assignment should meet the following requirements: The paper must be at least a 4-page long (not including the title page and/or reference page). Each paragraph consists of at least 4 to 5 sentences. Use at least five empirical sources (peer-reviewed journal articles and books) Submit on BB in a standard Word document format (must). Follow APA General Guidelines: Make 1-inch margins on the top, bottom, and sides. Use Times New Roman font, size 12, and double-spaced the entire research paper. Follow APA format (title page, main body, reference page). Remember to properly reference all ideas and information using APA referencing format to avoid the serious academic offence of plagiarism. You must use in-text citations and a list of references according to the APA citation style. For example, you must use APA in- text citations in the proposal for any idea or direct quote that you use that is not your own idea. No credit may be given if your proposal is not in the format specified below. Your proposal should have the following: The paper must include: From your previous assignment #1, include the following (please don’t submit your assignment #1) Title of your proposal Research Question/s (MUST) (your proposal will not be marked if RQ is missing) RESEARCH QUESTION(s) From your first part of the proposal (be specific on demographics) DATA AND METHODS Sampling Strategies (100-200 words) Explain how you will be collecting your data. What sampling method (snowball sampling or purposive sampling) will you use to recruit your participants? Refer to scholarly sources from sampling methods (cite) Explain how you will find your first participants, then the rest. For example, discuss the advantage of using snowball sampling instead of other sampling methods or vice versa. Note: You must cite relevant sources whenever needed. (failure to refer to sources will result in a zero mark) Sample Characteristics (100-200 words) Write who the targeted study population is. Write demographic information (age, gender, race, etc.). Write a tentative sample size. Describe the site and population from which you will draw your sample. Data Collection (150 words and above) Explain how you will record data as you discover it. Discuss different ways of capturing the data (design of your study). It may include (but is not limited to) writing field notes, video or audio taping, in-depth interviews, asking participants to draw pictures or diagrams for you, showing participants some pictures, etc. Discuss when to stop collecting more data (data saturation). Note: You must cite relevant sources whenever needed. (failure to refer to sources will result in a zero mark) Gaining Entry (75-100 words) Explain how you will have access to a specific group. Write who your contact person (gatekeeper) will be. Write whether it is an organization, school, hospital, or community. Instrument: The Semi-structured In-depth Interview Write what method you will be employed to collect your data. Explain how your interview guide (Appendix B) is geared toward your research question. Explain why the method you choose is the most appropriate one instead of other methods. Convince the reader that you have chosen the most appropriate methodological approach. For example, discuss the advantages of using individual interviews instead of participant observation or focus groups. Note: You must cite relevant sources whenever needed. (failure to refer to sources will result in a zero mark) Data Management (150 words and above) Write when you will start transcribing and analyzing data. (failure to refer to sources will result in a zero mark) Conclusion (150 words and above) Reiterates the importance or significance of your proposal that summarizes the entire study. Highlight the specific purpose of the study and the research questions it attempts to answer. Underscore the decision as to why the research design and methods used were chosen over other options. Emphasize why the research problem is worth investigating, why your research is unique, and how it should advance existing knowledge. Note: You must cite relevant sources whenever needed.
