The types of sources that could be used when researching the economic impact of the women's movement are primary and secondary sources. Primary sources would include interviews with those directly involved in the women's movement or newspaper articles from that time period. Secondary sources would be more relevant to its social impact and would be found in scholarly journals and textbooks. Relevant search terms would be: The women's movement Economic Impact of the women's movement Social Impact of the women's movement Susan B. Anthony Susan B. The final vote to approve the Nineteenth Amendment was a necessary cause of the success of the women's suffrage movement because without the vote, the ratification of the amendment would not have taken place, thus impacting the success of the women's suffrage movement. The National American Woman Suffrage Association supporting the decision to enter World War I was a contributory cause of the success of the women's suffrage movement because it was not an essential factor in the decision to go to war or support the war, but did contribute to the success of the movement.

The website would be appropriate to use in a research paper because the sources within it include factual information indicating its intent. The site is considered to be authoritative because secondary sources have an author and are associated with U.S. Congress. Using the A.R.I.A. criteria, answer the following questions: Who sponsors this website? Is it easy to navigate and find information? Is it modern looking? How current and accurate is the information on the website? Does it promote a specific opinion or point of view? Would this website be appropriate to use in a research paper? The website is sponsored by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). It is easy to navigate and allows the user to search for information thru a search box, however, the search box appears at the bottom of the page which can be confusing for the user when looking to search. The information on the site is opinion based and does not have references therefore the accuracy cannot be confirmed. Its intent is to publicize the opinions and viewpoints of the ACLU. There does not appear to be any authoritativeness as there are no authors indicated. This website would not be appropriate to use in a research paper unless you were looking to identify specific viewpoints of the ACLU on paycheck fairness. Relevancy: Would this article be useful for a paper examining the similarities between political sentiment in states that granted women the right to vote before the Nineteenth Amendment? Would it be useful in an essay focusing on the National Woman Suffrage Association (NWSA), an activist group based in New York that was dedicated to nationwide woman suffrage? Intent: What is the point of this article? Is the author making an argument? Authoritativeness: What are the author's credentials? What about the publication's? Accuracy: References were provided and scholarly sources were listed. Relevancy: The article focus on politics in the state of California. If looking for specific political views in specific states before the passing of the Nineteenth Amendment was passed, it could be a useful source, however is not a beneficial source for writing about NWSA as it does not provide any history outside of the state of California. Intent: The article provides factual information versus the authors opinion/viewpoint/argument regarding women's right to vote in California. Authoritativeness: The author of the article is a credible professional with credentials of expertise in the area of women's studies working as a professor at the University of Nebraska. Her article is published by a reputable source; Pacific Historical Review, and can be found in the Shapiro Library collection which is also reputable and used for the intent of scholarly research. The intended audience appears to be voters in effort to show the specific supporters of the movement and entice others to vote in support of it as well. The methods the creator of this poster used to target this audience was to use quotes from other community leaders supporting women and their equality to men. If the intended audience is indeed those who have influence over endorsing the movement, a key element that would have stood out to them would be the indicator of how many women stand to have the right to vote should the movement be endorsed. This element would be key to political leaders who stand to gain 300,000 additional votes from women. Module 3 Short Responses – Question 9 1. Can you detect any biases in this source? What words does the creator use that might point to his or her biases or assumptions? 2. What biases might you bring to your interpretation of the source? 1. The bias detected in this source is that it clearly is in support of the NWSA. Some of the
words that the creator uses that point to their bias is "co-equal", "endorsed", and "square deal". A key quote that stood out to me about the bias in this source was "It is unfair that women should be governed by laws in the making of which they have no voice". This implied that women should have a say in the laws being developed and implemented if they are required to abide by them. 2. The bias I bring to my interpretation is that I am a female, so naturally, I believe and feel that women and men are equal and should be treated as so.
