ANNOTATING YOUR SOURCES 2 3-4 Annotating Your Sources Identify your sources: 1. Lojacono, G.   ( 2022 ).   The fine line between localization and cultural appropriation in personal luxury goods: An exploratory study .   Strategic Change ,   31 ( 5 ),   487 496 .   https://doi.org/10.1002/jsc.2519 a. This source supports my viewpoint as it details what cultural appropriation is and how it often occurs in the luxury goods and fashion industry. It explains the difference between appropriation and appreciation as “respect, giving credit, and research based on local collaborations” which could help provide inspiration without appropriating anything from another culture (Lojacono, 2022). b. I found this source to be credible as it scored a 45 on the CRAAPO test, losing points for not including institutional affiliations or credentials for the author. However, it is current as it was published in 2022, it is relevant to the topic I am discussing, it supports its information with evidence and citations, is peer reviewed and professional looking, and appears to be objective in how it presents the facts. c. This source supports my key points as it lays out what cultural appropriation is and how it is harmful to the culture that is being stolen from. It also touches on how these kinds of practices demean and are disrespectful to the original culture which ties into my third point. 2. Barua, M. (2022). Cultural Appropriation: Can one culture borrow from another without exploitation? CQ Researcher, 32(5), 1–21.

This is helpful as it highlights just how common of an issue cultural appropriation is and it helps give a general understanding of the topic. It supports my points about how these practices are harmful to the culture of origin and society as a whole. b. This source received a 48 on the CRAAPO test only losing points for not having the author's credentials. This article is current, having been recently published in 2022, It is relevant to my subject matter, the information is supported by sources and evidence, it shares my intended audience, and it is accurate and peer- reviewed. It lists the author and their institutional affiliations and is published by a reputable organization. This article appears to be objective and unbiased and for the purpose of educating and informing the reader about the issues with cultural appropriation. c. This source supports my points about the harm that cultural appropriation causes and it helps to further understanding of the topic in a general sense. It helps to solidify my points about how the practice is disrespectful and done without consent as well. 3. Cruz, A. G., Seo, Y., & Scaraboto, D. (2023). Between cultural appreciation and cultural appropriation: Self-authorizing the consumption of cultural difference. Journal of Consumer Research . https://doi.org/10.1093/jcr/ucad022 a. This source provides an opposing view as it details the line between appropriation and appreciation. It explains how the difference between the two can be very

ANNOTATING YOUR SOURCES 4 subjective and depends on the person who is viewing the item and the situation at hand. Examples in this source are dealing with K-pop and the line between cultural appreciation and cultural appropriation within that sphere. It talks about how American k-pop fans are not inherently appropriating Korean culture however, when they cross the line into appropriation when they start using Korean names just for fun (Cruz et al., 2023). b. This source scored a 48 on the CRAPPO test, only losing points for not disclosing the credentials of the authors. It is current as it was published this year, and it is peer-reviewed. It was published by a reputable organization. It appears objective and unbiased. c. This source supports the counterargument to my claim. It explains how cultural appropriation versus cultural appreciation can be subjective and depends on the person and the context of the incident.
