When the internet was first created, it created many unknown possibilities. With people able to reach out to others without exposing their identity, they can send harassing messages to others (Siacon). With technology growing, cyberbullying is on another level, especially among the youth. As cyberbullying continues to increase, the question of whether it should be a punishable crime continues to prevail. With cyberbullying continuing to grow, many people continue to suffer from it, leading to mental health issues and even suicide. Cyberbullying among youths may happen either during school hours or afterwards. With many schools punishing students who are cyberbullying others during school hours, they can still not deal with cyberbullying after school hours. According to the authorities, cyberbullying should be punishable due to its effects on the victims. Despite the arguments about whether or not cyberbullying should be treated as a punishable crime, there are various reasons why cyberbullying; for instance, it causes a lot of emotional damage to the victims; victims can feel safer and help discourage cyberbullies. Despite cyberbullying not harming the victims physically, it causes a lot of emotional damage to the victims. Hence, the victims live in fear, which becomes a mental issue in the long run. With the issues the victims face, it is only reasonable that the bullies are punished to pay for the emotional pain they put their victims through. Some cyberbullies may not know the effects of their actions on the victims; therefore, by making cyberbullying punishable, the bullies can realize the severe effects of their crime. Moreover, by making cyberbullying a punishable crime, the victims of bullying can feel safe knowing that their bullies are punished. In most cases, victims of cyberbullying cannot feel safe even in their homes since they know that their bullies can reach out to them despite where they are (Siacon). Therefore, the victims know that they can report the cases of bullying and have the bullies held accountable and feel safer. Feeling unsafe pushes some victims to commit suicide to deal with the stress of cyberbullying; therefore, treating cyberbullying as a punishable crime can help make the victims feel safe, ensuring that they do not commit suicide. Seeing as the rates of suicide continue to increase as days go by, it is necessary to take every precaution possible to help reduce them, including treating cyberbullying as a punishable crime. Due to cyberbullying among students, some students drop out or do not perform well in school due to feeling unsafe (Siacon). Therefore, by treating cyberbullying as a punishable crime, students can feel safe in schools, decreasing school dropouts and improving the performance of cyberbullying victims. Lastly, treating cyberbullying as a punishable crime could help in discouraging cyberbullying. Knowing that cyberbullies may face the consequences of their actions, they will think twice before sending any harassing message to their victims (Siacon). Cyberbullies may be

With technology continuing to develop, cyberbullying reaches new heights, raising the question of whether or not it should be a punishable crime. Despite whether or not cyberbullying should be a punishable crime, various reasons support that it should be a punishable crime, for instance, making the victims feel safe, discouraging cyberbullying, and the emotional impact cyberbullying has on its victims. Through cyberbullying, victims cannot feel unsafe because they know the bullies can reach out to them regardless of their location. Moreover, cyberbullying has much stress that may affect the victim's emotional health. Treating cyberbullying as a punishable crime may help discourage cyberbullying. The emotional distress that comes with cyberbullying leads to mental disorders and suicide; therefore, treating it as a punishable crime could help reduce it, hence, reducing suicide rates.
