Running head: DISCUSSION 1 Discussion Student’s name Course number Instructor’s name Date
DISCUSSION 2 Discussion The narrative that I will be discussing and putting into perspective is the cases of two students in the same class where one cannot stay without an air conditioner, and the other one cannot tolerate it both due to their health conditions. In such a case, it is very hard to make accommodations to take care of the needs of these students. Using the social model and disability rights approaches, I will discuss how learning institutions and teachers can incorporate ways to accommodate all the students with disabilities and the guiding principles that should guide them as they are doing this. The social model pursues to transform society in order to take in people living with a disability. It does not try to change people with an impairment to accommodate society. It promotes the view that individuals with disabilities have a right to be fully contributing citizens on an equivalent basis with the rest. Using this perspective, I am going to discuss how the teachers and school management can understand the students with disabilities and find ways of accommodating them in the class. Using the disability rights perspective, I will discuss how each of these students has the right to study in an accommodative classroom according to their conditions. Intervention would include partitioning the class and giving the student who should not use a conditioner a sitting position in the partitioned area without a conditioner. DISCUSSION 3 I will be using this article because it discusses ways in which people can help the government to roll up its sleeves and help Ontario to become fully accessible to people with disabilities. Becker, S., & Palladino, J. (2016). Assessing Faculty Perspectives about Teaching and Working with Students with Disabilities. Journal of Postsecondary Education and Disability, 29(1), 65-82. I will use this article because it provides an exceptional evaluation of faculty views about teaching and working with learners with disabilities in contrast to the backdrop of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Freire, P. (2000). Pedagogy of the Oppressed. New York, NY: Continuum. (pp. 71-86). I will be using this resource since it puts into perspective how teachers oppress students by just narrating subjects to them, and this is making the education system suffer. Jensen, J. M., McCrary, N., Krampe, K., & Cooper, J. (2004). Trying to do the right thing: Faculty attitudes toward accommodating students with learning disabilities. Journal of Postsecondary Education and Disability, 17(2), 81-90. I will use this article because it will give insights on the attitudes of the faculty towards students with disabilities, and this will inform the interventions I will choose towards finding ways in which learning institutions and teacher can incorporate ways to accommodate all the students with disabilities Young, D., Schaefer, M. DISCUSSION 4 The reason I chose this article is that it discusses the challenges encountered by students with disabilities and how administrators and teachers should have an understanding of disability- related needs.
