Report
Workplace Violence Prevention Program In America, more than 1.5 million workers every year are victims of different kinds of violence in the workplace. Workplace violence ranges from physical assaults, threats, verbal abuse, and homicide (Cihon & Castagnera, 2017). Homicide, in particular, is one of the primary causes of employment-related deaths. The workplace, therefore, is a growing concern for employees and employers countrywide. According to the OSHA Act, employers must comply with safety and health standards issued by an OSHA-approved state plan. Since the start of the enforcement of these standards, the rate of workplace violence reported in the country has significantly dropped. As a human resource (HR) for a distribution warehouse company with 1000 workers, my Workplace Prevention Program will be the following. At a minimum, our workplace violence prevention program will establish a clear policy for different kinds of workplace violence and related actions. The program will also ensure that no employee who reports incidences of violence faces punishment. Lastly, our workplace violence prevention plan will encourage workers to report the incident immediately. The Workplace Prevention Plan will consist of four elements: workplace analysis, hazard prevention, safety training, and recordkeeping. Worksite Analysis : This element will thoroughly evaluate the entire warehouse environment to identify all probable operational and environmental risks for violence. In particular, I will review particular procedures and operations that add to hazard, identify all areas where hazards may cultivate, and conduct regular safety audits. I will carefully consider a team of workers’ representatives, some members of the senior management, security representatives, health personnel, regal personnel, and my colleagues from the human resource department so that we can conduct a comprehensive analysis. Violence Prevention and Control : After identifying all possible hazards in the warehouse, I will immediately take the necessary steps to control and prevent violence. Depending on the nature of the violence, I come up with necessary measures that include procedural, engineering, and administrative changes to control and prevent violent incidences. I will constantly check lighting, locks, alarms, and security cameras to secure the warehouse. I will also encourage workers to report the incidents immediately after they happen. Safety Training : Training will ensure my employees know probable workplace violence and how to secure themselves and their colleagues through outlined policies and guidelines. Training will involve reporting the incidence and behavioral strategies like how to mutually solve the conflict, manage anger and recognize an escalating behavior that may lead to violence, among others. Record-keeping and Program Evaluation : This element will help me determine my program's effectiveness. Among the records that I will keep are our medical and supervisor's reports for all reported assaults, threats, verbal abuse, and homicide cases. The record will reflect the types of these incidents and their locations. I will also be determined to keep minutes of safety meetings, records of hazards identified, and agreed actions to be taken. The last document I will keep is the records of all education programs, workers who attended, and the educators' qualifications. References Cihon, P. J., & Castagnera, J. (2017).
